many people are critical of the polling last week. if you're critical last week, you can't embrace them this week. here is charles cars. >> it's very felling, the pugh poll has romney head slightly beyond the margin of error. we were talking about the ones who are ex steamily likely to vote. romney among all the voters are extremely likely to vote, is up by 6 and three weeks ago he was down by 3. that's a nine-point swing among people who surely will be out there on election day. so i think right now the race is tied with romney still, i think, having some of the momentum from the debate and i think the rest of this story will be determined by the remaining debates. >> brian: i think what's interesting is that not only did he move ahead in most of the polls, and almost everybody, including president obama agrees that he lost the debate. president obama has done after and all his people calling him a liar is unprecedented. >> steve: that's desperate. >> brian: it's not with a reagan did after he lost or george bush. i went back and ask

but from obama, you saw those quips he was tossing out. the stuff that you wish you had said, all the witty remarks and rebuttals that you never said at the dinner, but you remember on the way out. so he had all of these chances last night, which again shows he doesn't have a good game when it comes to being quick and effective on his feet, he's trying to make up for it. but what's going to happen in the second debate, it's going to be a town hall. that's different dynamic, how you interact with the audience. that's where, for example, bush did badly. bush won and clinton did really well. so that's going to be a challenge. romney is really good one on one. it will be different in a town hall for him. >> bret: we have the wit of the staircase sometimes here on the panel. when we leave the panel, man, why didn't i say that. >> i have the wit of the car every night. [ laughter ] >> bret: speaking of the biden-ryan set-up as we got ready to head to kentucky, kirsten, you listen to that sound bite and you heard charles say, oh, it's just biden.

. >> i will do that for weeks at end. i will tell you that -- look, now what happens is i'm a firm believer in presidential politics and the expectation game. last night, obama was expected to do well, romney was not expected to do well. it was reversed. now, the expectations fall on romney to do well, the second time, and obama the expectations are lower. that's important. let me get to what charles krauthammer said who i admire a lot. that was solve morning at best. the idea that this guy answered the tax issue, you, the mainstream media, all the cable is absolutely outrageous that nobody has followed up and asked this guy specifically governor, when you come up with all these ridiculous statements that you going to save the fence, that you are going to cut everybody 20%. you are going to save social security and medicare and yet you are going to do it by cutting into certain tax loopholes and you won't name one loophole, where are you, bill? ask him the question. >> bill: listen, any comes in for an interview i certain
